Flooding is a real concern for people living in Central and Southern Alberta and in Drumheller the rising water is closing roads and forcing people from their homes.

The Red Deer River is still rising and is expected to peak at about half the flow rate experienced in the 2013 flood but it's the Rosebud River causing most of the problems.

The owners of the Last Chance Saloon along the 11 Bridges Road were supposed to host hundreds of motorcyclists this weekend but it appears that won't be happening.

"We didn't have a real great spring just because of the weather so we were really waiting on a few big weekends to get us back on track usually we're about six weeks ahead by this time so we didn't need this," says Dave Arsenault from the Last Chance Saloon.

The Rosebud River has spilled its banks forcing a mandatory evacuation order for about 75 people near the hamlet of Wayne and while many have left their homes some have stayed behind to protect their livestock.

Evacuation centres have been set up nearby in Drumheller.

"Just a few couple of people who we're accommodating so it's quite small numbers that we're looking after the rest are going to family and friends," says Julia Fielding with the Town of Drumheller.

Highway 10X is closed until the water goes down and bridges are inspected and declared safe but with snow still lingering and warm days on the way there's still a chance the waters could rise again.

"The prediction is for the river is to stay the same however we are monitoring the Rosebud River higher upstream to see which is why we're still very cautious to take away the state of local emergency," says Fielding.

Officials are warning people not to try to drive across flooded roads.
