A series of late morning collisions in the northbound lanes of the QEII reduced traffic flow between the Didsbury and Olds overpasses.

According to RCMP, the collision scene was cleared shortly before 1:30 p.m. but unnecessary travel through the region is not recommended.

No injuries were reported in the crashes.

Highway conditions in the area are considered poor, as the road is extremely icy and snow covered. Motorists are encountering blizzard like conditions and reduced visibility.

Officials with the RCMP say highways are in poor condition across the province and travel is not recommended.

In the mountain parks, RCMP members are investigating a number of early afternoon crashes along the Trans-Canada Highway between Banff and Lake Louise. According to the Lake Louise detachment, highway visibility, as of 2:00 p.m. Friday, is zero.

In the southwest corner of the province, Highway 3 is closed betweed Coleman and the B.C. border because of heavy snowfall.

Anyone travelling on Alberta's highways is advised to check 511 road reports prior to their departure and to ensure their vehicle is equipped with proper emergency precautions including clothing, blankets, drinking water, food and first aid kits.
