The Calgary Roughnecks, and their limited edition Darth Vader jerseys, will take to the turf of the Scotiabank Saddledome on Saturday night for a pivotal matchup with their West Division counterparts the Vancouver Stealth.

Saturday night’s game has been deemed ‘STARS Wars Night’, a fundraiser for STARS Air Ambulance, and the team will honour ‘The Force’. First responders, military personnel, AHS members, Alberta Sheriffs and Alberta Correctional Services’ members will receive discounted tickets and will be recognized during the game.

The Roughnecks’ jerseys, which were designed in collaboration with Lucasfilm Ltd., include a black nebula pattern and images of Star Wars villain Darth Vader, the Death Star, TIE Fighters and the Imperial Star Destroyer. Saturday night will be the jersey’s lone appearance.

Roughnecks’ defenseman Scott Carnegie had high praise for the jersey at Wednesday morning’s unveiling.

“I think this ranks right at the top,” said Carnegie. “It’s clean, it’s nice, I think the guys will appreciate it.

Carnegie, who is also a member of the Calgary Fire Department, is donating his game cheque to the Burn Treatment Society, a donation the team will match.

The Star Wars themed game worn jerseys will be auctioned off online at Elevate Auctions with all proceeds benefitting STARS Air Ambulance. The auction is scheduled to end on the evening of Monday, April 25.

Fans are encouraged to attend the game in costume and the team will distribute prizes to select fans.

With three games remaining in their regular season, the Roughnecks hold a four game lead on the Stealth for the final playoff spot in the National Lacrosse League’s West Division but Vancouver has played two less games.

“Our playoffs start this weekend,” said Carnegie. “We need these games, especially against Vancouver. They’re the team chasing us.”

“We get these games, we get in and we can start to build for the playoffs.”

Of the Roughnecks’ final three games, two are against the Stealth.

Saturday night's game is slated to start at 7:00 p.m. Tickets are available through Ticketmaster.
