Teams from the Transportation Safety Board of Canada and Canadian Pacific are heading to the scene of a train derailment near Pearce, about 12 km east of Fort Macleod.

Canadian Pacific says that at about 2 a.m. on Thursday, 17 empty grain cars left the track.

No one was injured when the derailment occurred and the company insists that there are no public safety issues as a result.

Officials have not determined the reason for the derailment and say that it’s still too early to determine how long it will take to clean up and repair the damage.

Canadian Pacific says that freight is being detoured around the area until the repairs are complete.
