A second man has now been convicted in the death of Mark Mariani, a Calgary man who was attacked and beaten in a parking lot at a northwest strip mall.

It took two days for a jury to convict Robert Reitmeier, the man accused in the murder that happened three years ago.

47-year-old Mark Mariani, who suffered from Crohn’s disease, was found savagely beaten to death in the parking lot of a strip mall along 16 Ave. N.W.

Police say he was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time, coming across two white supremacists spray-painting racist graffiti.

The pair, identified as Robert Reitmeier and Tyler Sturrup, then attacked Mariani.

Mariani’s family find little solace in the conviction. “It's still the sad part that even though we feel that the justice has come through, that there's still that void and that won't go away,” says Dino Mariani, Mark’s brother.

Sturrup was found guilty and sentenced life in prison with no chance of parole for the next ten years.

Reitmeier could face a similar sentence.
