A Calgary man with a long history of child pornography offences is headed back to jail.

Eric Wanamaker, 63, was sentenced to two years less a day on Tuesday and will also spend three years on probation.

In May, Wanamaker was found guilty of accessing and possessing child pornography.

Police found more than 40,000 disturbing images on his computer after a co-worker tipped them off.

Wanamaker has a history of sex crimes against children dating back to 1981.

Wanamaker is also banned for life from attending any public place where children are present, including parks and pools.

The judge also decided that Wanamaker would not be given credit for the nine months he has already been in custody.
