Commuters who board the CTrain at the Southland Station will have to make alternate arrangements on Monday as the station undergoes a much needed renovation.

The station will be closed for about 6 - 7 weeks starting on Saturday, March 19.

Crews are lengthening the platform and will make improvements to accessibility and lighting.

The platform renovations will make it possible for the CTrain to accommodate longer, four-car trains.

About 7000 people use the station every day to get to work or school.

The closure means people will have to catch the train at Heritage or Anderson Station.

"We understand they're upset and it does make sense. We wish we had longer notice to give them in the first place. It worked out that we couldn't due to contractors and their needs," said Theresa Schroder from Calgary Transit.

Calgary Transit has scheduled shuttle buses to provide service between Southland and Anderson stations every 15 minutes during the closure.

Bus service will remain unaffected and buses will drop off and pick up customers at Southland Station as usual.
