A standoff has ended peacefully after police surrounded a home in Cochrane late Sunday night.

RCMP say around 5 p.m. a man dressed in camouflage was spotted near Highway 22, carrying what appeared to be a long gun slung over his shoulder.  Police reportedly caught up with him at a community skate park and tried talking to him, but he ignored them and went into a nearby field.

A Calgary police helicopter was called in, and the area was cordoned off as residents were told to stay inside.

Later, police surrounded a home on Quigley Dr. in an apparent effort to call the man out.

Shortly after, Alberta RCMP later tweeted that the “situation in Cochrane” had ended peacefully.

A man is in custody and facing charges.
