City police have charged a man with the shooting of an innocent bystander.

Jose Ribeiro Neto was shot in the face and he underwent surgery Friday.  Surgeons had to remove both his eyes.

His family expects to receive their Canadian visas tomorrow, and they hope to be in Calgary as soon as possible.

Police have arrested 30 year old Roland Ashley Warawa.  He was picked up in the city's northeast Thursday, at that time police also found a 22 calibre handgun in the suspect's car.

Warawa is charged with two counts of attempted murder along with a number of firearms related offences.

Police say three men where in James Shortt Park Tuesday night arguing.  Officers won't say what the argument was about, but they believe Warawa was the one who pulled the trigger and shot Neto who was walking by at the time.

Warawa was released from jail last October after serving time for three counts of attempted murder in 1997.

It turns out Warawa is also charged with attempted murder in another shooting which happened September 4th.  In that case a 21 year old man was shot in the stomach.
