A man and a  woman were taken into custody after a brazen bank robbery in the city’s southwest ended in a spectacular crash on Tuesday afternoon.

The whole incident started at about 3:30 p.m. when a lone male went into an ATB branch on 85th Street and 9th Avenue SW and passed a note to a teller demanding cash.

The man then fled on foot and was picked up by a woman in a red car.

A police unit that was responding to the robbery spotted the car near 69th Street and the suspect vehicle fled, crashing into another vehicle on 17th Avenue near Sarcee Trail.

The pair jumped from the wrecked vehicle and tried to run from the scene.

Police were able to apprehend both suspects and take them into custody.

Witnesses say police had it all wrapped up in just a few minutes.

“When the police arrived, it was only one police officer so we came really fast to help him and after I see police came from all directions and he was holding something and we just heard that he robbed a bank, he throw it and police cars came from all directions, they got him right away, they did a really good job,” said Konstantinos Deligiorgis.

Officials say there were no serious injuries as a result of the incident.

There is no word yet on charges.
