CALGARY -- Calgary police have identified the man whose body was found Sunday in a northeast home as 58-year-old Mahmoud Ahmid Aburashed.
Aburashed's death has been ruled a homicide and police are asking the public for help to solve the case.
Police responded to a home in the 400 block of 28th Avenue N.E. around 12:30 p.m. for a check on welfare call, where they found the man's body.
Police say they believe the death happened two days earlier on Friday morning.
"The cause of death is not being released at this time. This is a targeted incident linked to the drug trade. Investigators are asking anyone with information about this incident to contact the police," said Staff Sgt. Colin Chisholm with the CPS Homicide Unit.
Chisholm said the victim is known to the police, but would not elaborate on his dealings with authorities.
"We're hoping that anybody who saw anything in the early morning hours of Dec. 13 in relation to the residence," he said. "Whether or not they saw anybody coming or going, any vehicles moving about, that sort of thing."
He said there might also be someone who knows something about the victim that might help police track down his killer.
"Anytime, any little bit of information might put us on the right path. So it's really important that if they have any information in relation to that residence or Mr. Aburashed, please bring it forward and let us know."
Chisholm adds investigators have also gone through the neighbourhood for information and are now looking to find any security video from other homes in the area that could shed some light on what happened.
