A 17-year-old boy was airlifted from Kananaskis to the Foothills Medical Centre Friday afternoon after striking his head while skiing.

EMS spokesperson Stuart Brideaux says a paramedic crew responded to the ski hill at approximately 12:30 following reports a skier had suffered a head injury.

The skier, a male in his late teens, had been rescued from the hill by ski patrol members. Initial reports indicate the teen struck his head after losing control during a run.

The EMS crew determined the teen’s injuries were serious and potentially life threatening. STARS Air Ambulance was deployed to transport the skier to hospital in Calgary.
