A Calgary man's family says he is recovering in hospital after nearly being tortured to death.

The alleged victim is a former Winnipegger who lived in Calgary and worked for a moving a company here.

One month ago, Regina police say he was anonymously dropped off at a hospital in Regina with physical signs of torture.

The once 245 pound 26-year-old is still in hospital recovering from horrific injuries.

He had been reported missing since late February.

After nearly a month of not being able to speak, The alleged victim was finally able to talk to Regina police on Friday.

His mother says her son told Regina police his attacker is a close aquaintance.

"I'd like the police to tell me what kind of motive there could be. What kind of motive causes someone to do that to another human being?" 

Regina police will only say no charges have been laid and that it has passed the investigation to its major crimes unit.

Regina police say its major crimes unit will start its investigation Monday morning.

Calgary police tell CTV News they have offered their support to the investigation and will assist Regina police if asked, but that hasn't been requested yet.
