Jackie Tran took the stand at his immigration hearing on Thursday to defend his claim that he is not a gang member and should not be deported on organized crime grounds.

Tran argued that some of his friends are gang members and so there is a misperception that he belongs to a gang as well.

The 26-year-old said that he doesn't discuss gang associations when he is with these friends and admitted that one of his friends was murdered.

Calgary police insist that Tran is a member of the gang FK who are embroiled in a street war with rival gang FOB.

Tran is still awaiting results from a previous immigration hearing.

Both sides will submit their final arguments and a decision is expected from the Immigration and Refugee Board on this hearing after May 1st.

If he is convicted of being a member of organized crime, Jackie Tran will not be able to appeal the decision.
