Residents will be now be able to take advantage of new transit priority lanes along Centre Street, making things much quicker for commuters coming in from north Calgary.

Calgary Transit operates about 90 buses an hour on the road, carrying 35,000 passengers every day.

The new priority lane hopes to make a dent in the 20,000 vehicles that use Centre Street every day.

The city says that they made bus lanes a priority because heavy traffic was causing major delays, especially during peak times.

Officials say that the new lanes will vastly improve transit schedules because they will no longer be delayed for extensive periods at traffic lights.

Construction on the road between 42 Ave. and 54 Ave. N.W. began back in July.
