Alberta Emergency Alert has issued a critical water quality alert for a small southern Alberta community and says water in the Village of Carmangay may be unsafe to drink.

Residents in the affected area are advised to bring water to a rapid boil for one minute before use or to drink bottled water.

The alert was issued at about 2:35 p.m. Friday and will remain in effect for at least three days.
