The family of Okotoks town councillor Ed Sands is in shock after their daughter Amy was identified as the young woman found dead early Friday morning in the community of Dover.

Amy Sands, who used the stagename AmiJane Marshall for her dancing career, was found dead inside a home on Dover Meadows Close.

Her parents are Okotoks Councillor Ed Sands and his wife Debbie.  Amy also leaves behind a brother and sister and many devastated friends.

Residents in the southeast community were startled Friday morning at around 6:30 a.m. by the sound of gunshots and screams.

Police are revealing few details about the circumstances surrounding Sands’ death.

Police have not designated the death of Sands as a murder, but the homicide squad has been put in charge of the investigation.

The woman's body was found after a number of neighbours called 9-1-1 about gunfire.  They also heard a man shouting loudly.

“We have taken a number of people in for questioning,” says Kevin Brookwell of the CPS.  “Everyone's cooperating at this point but at this time, no suspects and no charges.”

Neighbours say the house has been a problem for some time with people coming and going at all hours and strange package deliveries.

The home is so suspicious, people on the street are afraid to show their faces on television.

“There's lots of vehicles coming and going that don't belong here,” says one unidentified Dover resident. “They park on the street go down alley and are back in 10 to 15 minutes.”

Police say the activities within the house have been on their radar for some time.

“It is activity associated to organized crime,” says CPS’s Kevin Brookwell.  “I don't want to get into exactly what it is.”

The mayor of Okotoks, Bill Robertson, expressed his condolences on behalf of Okotoks council to the Sands family on the loss of Amy.
