The search is on for a suspect in a vicious assault in Calgary's northeast that has left a woman on life support.

The Calgary police homicide unit is now also investigating.

Around 4 a.m. on Monday, officers were called to the Nose Creek Pathway near the Fox Hollow golf course after a passerby found a badly injured woman.

Investigators had several areas of the pathway blocked off but have not determined if what they found is connected.
