Calgary police say they had to force their way into a northwest home on Monday night to rescue a woman who called 911.

When officers arrived and gained entry to the home on Norquay Court N.W. at around 9 p.m., they found a man in the process of choking the victim.

She was rushed from the scene by police and EMS.

They say she was unconscious at one point but regained consciousness.

She is currently in hospital in non-life threatening condition.

A small child was also in the home at the time but was not injured.

The man was arrested but there is no word on charges.
