Occupational Health & Safety officials are investigating a deadly construction accident in the city's northeast.

Crews were called to an industrial building in the 600 block of 28th Street NE at about 1:20 p.m. Thursday following reports of a wall collapse.

Calgary police confirm a male of undetermined age lost his life when a large chunk of the cinder block wall toppled. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to EMS, no other workers were injured by the falling wall.

Workers from neighbouring businesses tell CTV the men had been working to remove the wall since early Wednesday, It appears the men were removing a cinder block wall which had covered a dormant garage door.

"I was going by yesterday and he was cutting the wall piece by piece and he was actually doing it by hand and I was like that just looks unsafe," said Silvanus Sylvester, who works nearby. "There was just two of them and they had the door propped open and he had no safety hat on, he didnt have anything on."

An investigation into the fatality is underway.
