Wranglers coach Mitch Love named to AHL all-star coaching staff
Greg Moore of the Toronto Marlies and Mitch Love of the Calgary Wranglers have been named to the coaching staff of the American Hockey League's all-star event Feb. 5-6 in Laval, Que.
Moore and Love join Todd Nelson of the Hershey Bears and Neil Graham of the Texas Stars behind the benches.
The Marlies, Wranglers, Bears and Stars all owned the best record in their respective divisions as of Sunday.
Love has coached the Calgary Flames' AHL affiliate to a league-best 27-7-1-0 record this season.
The 38-year-old was named the AHL's outstanding coach last season when the Stockton Heat went 45-16-5-2.
The Flames relocated their affiliate to Calgary this season as the Wranglers.
The Marlies were 19-9-1-1 under Moore, who took over as head coach of the Maple Leafs' AHL affiliate Dec. 1, 2019.
The 38-year-old played in the all-star game in 2008 and joins Peter Laviolette and John Stevens as the only people to participate in the AHL's all-star game as a player and a coach.
A skills competition Feb. 5 pits all stars from the two Eastern Conference divisions against the same from the Western Conference.
Teams representing each of the four divisions will play a round-robin, three-on-three tournament featuring six games of 10 minutes each Feb. 6.
The two teams with the best records at the end of the round-robin will face off for the championship, which will be a six-minute game also played three on three.
