Yakemchuk scores record-breaking goal in overtime as Hitmen edge Blazers 5-4 at Saddledome
Carter Yakemchuk set a record and won a game for the Hitmen Friday night as Calgary defeated the Kamloops Blazers 5-4 in overtime.
Yakemchuk scored in extra time to give Calgary the victory. It was his 64th career goal, moving him into top spot as the Hitmen’s all-time leading scorer as a defenceman.
Kalem Parker, Connor Hvidston, Axel Hurtig and Ben Kindel added the other Hitmen goals.
Nathan Behm, Max Sullivan, Jordan Keller and Tommy Lafreniere scored for the Blazers.
Hitmen forward Tanner Howe was not in the lineup Friday after being named to Team Canada’s roster for the 2025 World Juniors. He’ll be competing in that tournament against teammate Axel Hurtig, who was named to the Team Sweden roster.
The win was Calgary’s eighth in its past 10 games. The Hitmen are tied with the Lethbridge Hurricanes for third place in the WHL’s Eastern Conference.
Next up for the Hitmen is a Sunday afternoon clash with the Swift Current Broncos at the Saddledome. It’s the last game for the Hitmen before their holiday break.
Puck drop is scheduled for 4 p.m.
