Calgary police say that a young woman who was found dead inside her southeast home this past September was administered a fatal dose of drugs by a female family member.

At 5:15 p.m. on September 8, police were called to a home in the 100 block of Cranarch Circle S.E.

When crews arrived, they found 19-year-old Jessica Hagan dead and her mother, Christine Hagan, in medical distress.

A subsequent investigation by the CPS Homicide Unit has determined that Jessica, who suffered from Down syndrome, was the victim of a homicide, and died as a result of an intentional administration of drugs by her mother Christine.

Police say that Christine has since passed away and therefore no charges will be laid.

They have not released any details about what drugs were used in the incident.

Officials are withholding all further comment out of respect for the family.

At the time of the suspicious death investigation, neighbours told CTV that Jessica's mother Christine had been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer earlier this year.

Hagan's death is Calgary's 34th homicide of 2015.
