Sarah Outen arrived in Calgary on bicycle on Saturday morning as the British woman continued her 4.5 year trip around the planet championing for clean water.

The 29-year-old is travelling around the world raising funds and increasing awareness for WaterAid, an organization which aims to improve access to safe drinking water and sanitation.

“The idea behind raising money for charities as I go and sharing lots of stories with schools is to really share the benefits of the journey because, at the heart of it, I wanted an adventure but I wanted to make it something that benefitted other people as well,” explains Outen.

Outen began her trip in London, England in 2011 and has travelled across Europe, Asia, and the Pacific Ocean. The 29-year-old’s means of transportation have included bicycle, kayak and rowboat and she became the first person to row solo from Japan to Alaska.

The British adventurer will take part in several events celebrating the launch of WaterAid Canada as she continues her voyage across Canada. Outen plans to reach the Atlantic Ocean in March and will travel by boat for her return to the U.K.

She expects to cross the finish line, under London’s Tower Bridge, next summer.
