The Calgary Humane Society is now searching for the owners of a neglected dog which was found running at large in the community of Abbeydale on Monday.

On February 8, the agency says a dog, possibly a Basenji or Bull Terrier, was brought to them after it was found by itself in the area of Saint Kateri Tekakwitha School in northeast Calgary.

The dog, determined to be female, has multiple masses on its hind end and will require surgical intervention to treat them.

"The condition of this dog is concerning," said Brad Nichols, senior manager of the Animal Cruelty Investigations unit in a release. "We need to identify this dog so we can talk to the owners and get a medical history. We encourage the owners to come forward."

Nichols also requests that anyone who recognizes this dog to come forward with owner information and report it to the Humane Society by calling 403-205-4455.
