Officials with ENMAX are warning homeowners of recent fraud attempts in which unsavory salespeople, impersonating ENMAX Energy employees, try to sell energy plans under false pretenses.

ENMAX Energy does not sell energy contracts door-to-door and does not hire third party organizations to sell contracts at the doorsteps of homeowners.

The energy company has provided the following tips to ensure Calgarians are informed and protected:

  • Ask to see the identification badge of anyone selling any energy contract or offer.
  • Confirm that the person's name and/or company name on the badge matches all brochures, sales materials and contracts.
  • If you're not ready to sign a contract you do not have to share any personal information.
  • If you are suspicious of anyone going door-to-door in your neighbourhood, please call the police immediately.

If you believe you’ve been misled by a door-to-door utilities salesperson, lodge a complaint with the Utilities Consumer Advocate, 403-310-4822 or UCAhelps@gov.ab.ca.

The only encounters Calgarians should have with ENMAX employees in their communities are:

  • ENMAX crews repairing lines
  • ENMAX employees notifying residents of projects or maintenance in the area (without solicitiation)
  • the reading of electricity meters
