Severe storms, which struck Albertans back-to-back at the beginning of the month caused over $100M in damage, an early report says.

The Insurance Bureau of Canada released initial estimates of damages caused by the storms on August 4 and 5, 2015.

Hail pummeled the City of Calgary as well as the communities of Chestermere and Redwood Meadows during the storms.

Wind gusts of up to 80 km/h were recorded in the City of Calgary, with the wind tearing the roof off one apartment building.

Many repair companies have been working non-stop over the past year because of the huge amounts of damage left behind by past storms.

“Even if you do have a brand-new roof, most vents are plastic, so you get golf-size hail balls and they’ll go right through it,” said Marcus Osland with Meerkat Roofing.

The bureau says that August’s storms followed another in July, which hit Alberta and Saskatchewan, dealing $230M in insured damage.
