Calgary police have now laid a charge of first degree murder in connection with the death of a woman at a home in Pineridge on Tuesday.

At around 5:45 p.m. on August 25, police were called to a home in the 400 block of Pinehill Road N.E.

A woman was found dead inside the home and a man was arrested shortly afterward.

An autopsy conducted on Wednesday has confirmed the identity of the victim as Chelsea Serpentini-Harty, 24.

Her cause of death is not being released at this time.

Police have now charged Jonathon Edward Martin, 26, with first degree murder in Serpentini-Harty's death.

Martin has already appeared in court on Thursday morning.

Investigators are continuing to work on the case, but say that both parties were in a relationship and were living together at the home.

CPS Staff Sergeant Colin Chisholm says they believe the couple were together for only about a month before the incident occurred and alcohol may have been a factor in the events as they transpired.

He says that Martin and Serpentini-Harty lived in the basement of the home and other individuals lived there as well. This was the first time, however, that police were called specifically in relation to the couple in this incident.

"Police had not been called to that residence in relation to that couple. Police have been called to that residence for other individuals on unrelated matters," Chisholm said.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call police at 403-266-1234, or Crime Stoppers anonymously using any of the following methods:
