Calgary police have issued a warning in the interest of public safety about the recent release of an inmate with a history of violent offences into the community.

Matthew Adrian Boyes, 43, served a two year federal prison sentence for breaching conditions of his last peace bond and police say he is now in the Calgary area.

Boyes has past manslaughter and assault convictions in Edmonton and Calgary that date back to 1990 and has been violent against strangers, people known to him, and peace officers.

Police say he has shown that his danger level may be increased when he is intoxicated by alcohol and/or drugs.

Boyes is described as:

  • Aboriginal
  • 183 cm or 6’ tall
  • 95 Kg or 210 lbs.
  • Black hair
  • Brown eyes
  • Medium complexion

Police say Boyes will now be monitored by the Calgary Police Service High Risk Offender Program, bound by conditions of a recognizance.
