A 29-year-old man suffered life threatening injuries and his passenger was critically injured in a Friday evening crash in the northeast.

According to police, at approximately 9:00 p.m., a cream coloured 1997 Infiniti QX SUV was travelling along Madigan Dr. N.E when the driver lost control and struck two parked vehicles. The impact of the collision sent the Infiniti spinning on to the sidewalk before it came to a rest on the lawn of a home.

The occupants of the SUV, a 29-year-old driver and a 23-year-old female passenger, were trapped in the wreckage. Fire crews and EMS responded to the scene and extricated the two patients.

EMS transported the pair to the Foothills Medical Centre with the driver in serious, life threatening condition. The passenger sustained serious, critical injuries.

Open liquor containers were located in the Infiniti and police believe speed likely contributed to the crash.

The Calgary Police Service continues to investigate.

Anyone who witnessed the crash, or encountered the Infiniti QX prior to the collision, is asked to contact the Calgary Police Service Traffic Section at 403-266-1234.
