The southern Alberta man accused of killing Terry Blanchette and his two-year-old daughter, Hailey, has been returned to police custody after spending several days in hospital in Lethbridge.
Derek Saretzky is charged with two counts of first-degree murder in the deaths of the little girl and her father.
Terry Blanchette was found dead in his Blairmore, Alberta home on Monday, September 14 and an AMBER Alert was issued for Hailey, after she was reported missing from the residence.
Hailey’s body was found the next day in a rural area near the town.
Seretzky was charged the following day with murder and indignity to a human body in connection to the deaths.
Last week, the 22-year-old was found at the Lethbridge Correctional Centre in medical distress and sources say that he tried to hang himself.
Saretzky was taken to hospital in Lethbridge and was placed in a medically induced coma in the intensive care unit.
His condition improved over the weekend and on Monday, CTV News confirmed that Saretzky was no longer a patient at the facility.
Officials are not saying where he is now being held but say every inmate is assessed by institutional staff in conjunction with Alberta Health Services to ensure appropriate placement in a correctional facility.
