Police say alcohol and speed are factors in a fatal crash at the intersection of Bow Trail and Sarcee.

They have now laid charges against 27-year-old Ramandeep Singh JASWAL of Calgary. He is charged with Impaired Driving Causing Death, Impaired Driving Causing Bodily Harm, and Refusing to Provide a Breath Sample

The accident happened at 3:16 Sunday morning.

Witnesses say Jaswal, was driving a Mercedes westbound along Bow Trail. The car then ran a red light at high speeds and tried to turn onto Sarcee Trail’s northbound lane.

The two vehicles entered the intersection simultaneously, and the Mercedes T-boned the Ford F150 on the passenger side. The Ford spun and hit a power pole. Both occupants of the truck were ejected.

The passenger of the truck, a 38-year-old woman, died on scene, while the 50-year-old male driver is currently in Foothills hospital with serious injuries.

Jaswal was not injured, and is now in police custody.

Both Bow Trail and Sarcee Trail were closed for much of Sunday while police investigated.

JASWAL is scheduled to make his first court appearance on Tuesday morning.
