The Calgary Police Service homicide unit has launched an investigation into the July death of a five-year-old boy after an autopsy determined the child’s injuries were not consistent with the explanation provided by family to hospital staff.

On July 10, 2015, Eneas Emilio Perdomo was brought to the Alberta Children’s Hospital by family. Hospital staff determined the child was suffering from extensive swelling and bleeding, injuries inconsistent with the day to day activities of a young child.

According to police, family members told staff that Emilio’s injuries were the result of numerous accidents.

A week after being admitted to hospital, Emilio passed away. An autopsy determined that the child was severely bruised and suffering from a number of serious injuries.

“They have provided us with statements and information,” said CPS Staff Sgt. Doug Andrus of the family’s cooperation with the investigation. “Those statements and information are not consistent with the injuries suffered by the child.”

Police have not disclosed the cause of death.

Five family members escorted Emilio to hospital and police are still attempting to confirm the boy's relationships within the family.

The young boy arrived in Canada in February of 2015. Police are not disclosing where he was from but the suspicious death investigation has involved individuals from outside of the country.

“Emilio was a recent arrival to Canada,” said Andrus. “We’re exploring information with individuals outside of the country.”

The CPS homicide unit is leading the investigation into the death of the five-year-old boy. Anyone who had been in contact with the child is encouraged to contact the Calgary Police Service, 403-266-1234, or anonymous tips may be submitted to Crime Stoppers.
