Man accused in Good Samaritan's death violates court-imposed order while in jail

Accused murderer violates court order from jail A Bradford man awaiting his murder trial to begin is found guilty of violating court orders while behind bars.

Brandon Aaron has been found guilty of violating a court-imposed non-communication order while behind bars in Penetanguishene.

The 22-year-old Bradford man is charged in the death of David Goddard two years ago along Holland Street West in Bradford.

Police said an officer on patrol found a man suffering from a fatal injury around 4:30 a.m. on September 4, 2022.

They said Goddard had stepped in to help a young woman.

“Ultimately his heroism led to his death,” said South Simcoe Police Insp. Sheryl Sutton days after his death.

Investigators said Aaron surrendered to police and was arrested.

He faces charges of second-degree murder, assault with a weapon, assault causing bodily harm and uttering threats.

Aaron's lawyer, Eugene Bhattacharya, said his client has the support of loved ones.

“Family is completely supportive and friends. A lot of community support and we’re very grateful for that demonstration every time we come to court with the people who show up to back him up,” Bhattacharya said.

Goddard’s family says he was weeks shy of his 59th birthday. They described him as  a modest, humble, gentle soul who gave his life to help a stranger in need.

“For Dave to go that way, I’m not surprised,” said his brother-in-law, Donald Ayres, in a Sept. 14, 2022, interview with CTV News. “He would not stand by and let something like that happen. Of course, he would be the person who would come to the aid of anyone that needed help.”

Aaron is scheduled to return to court early in the new year for sentencing in the most recent matter. His six-week murder trial is scheduled to begin in May.

The allegations against him have not been tested in court.
