The latest hike to Alberta’s minimum wage is just under a week old, but many businesses already say they are feeling the pinch.
The Western Region of Restaurants Canada say businesses in its industry will have to cut staff and hours to deal with the higher wages.
Officials with the organization say that up to 78 percent of restaurants will need to take measures because of the new $12.20 minimum wage.
It’s compounding the already difficult year because of the depressed economy.
Earlier this week, Cineplex Entertainment also said that it would have to increase ticket prices because of the depressed economy.
It’s not much of a jump, between 22 and 51 cents, but the company said it was needed.
A new poll, commissioned by Metro News and conducted by ThinkHQ, suggests that love for the increase is pretty divided.
