The city is putting on a rally to welcome home the Calgary Stampeders and celebrate the team’s Grey Cup win on Tuesday.
Calgarians are invited down to the Municipal Plaza and Olympic Plaza at 11:30 a.m. to cheers on the CFL Champs.
The event goes until 1:30 p.m. and fans will hear from players and coaches as they reflect on the season and their victory over the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.
People are asked to wear red and white and bring a donation to help support the Calgary Food Bank.
Officials say there will be giveaways, food trucks, and even a few surprises. There will also be the opportunity to buy some Grey Cup 2014 merchandise.
“The Stamps’ win was absolutely thrilling, and I know that Calgarians want to come together and celebrate with the team,” said Mayor Nenshi in a release. “We’ll also be collecting donations for the Calgary Food Bank at the rally. So come on out, show your Stampeders pride, and help your fellow Calgarians at the same time.”
Drivers in the area should be aware that Macleod Trail northbound between 9 and 6 Avenues, and 8 Avenue between MacLeod Trail and 1 Street S.E. will be closed to traffic from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. to accommodate the event.
CTrain service won’t be affected, but bus service may be detoured.
