The Calgary Police Service has launched its very first canine charity calendar featuring the unit's 19 dogs at venues around the city.
The idea was spearheaded by Canine Unit Constable Shawn MacGillivary and was more than a year in the making.
MacGillivary is a 13-year member of the CPS and has spent six of those in the Canine Unit.
His dog, Nox is the feature image for December 2014 and is a general patrol dog that is also trained in drug detection.
Proceeds from the sale of the 2014 calendar will go to the Calgary Police Foundation to fund community initiatives aimed at reducing youth victimization and criminal activity by focusing on education, prevention and early intervention.
The limited-edition calendars are $10 each and only 2,500 of them were printed.
The police service dogs have responded to about 4200 calls so far this year and police say that they credit the canines with 174 arrests since January 2013.
