An 18-year-old man faces multiple charges after Lethbridge ALERT organized crime team members seized drugs, ammunition, cash and a 3D “ghost” gun from him as he was getting into a vehicle.

On Jan. 9, members of the Lethbridge ALERT organized crime team arrested a man entering his vehicle, resulting in the seizure of a suspected 3D printed firearm, a prohibited over-capacity magazine with ammunition, 163 grams of cocaine, 220 opioid pills and $8,600 cash.

“Ghost guns are favoured by organized crime because of their ability to bypass lawful acquisition and can go undetected. These pose a serious risk to our communities, especially in the hands of a drug dealer,” said Sgt. Trevor Sheppard, ALERT Lethbridge, in a media release.

The firearm is being submitted to ALERT’s firearms lab for further analysis and ballistics testing.

An 18-year-old man was charged with possession of drugs for the purpose of trafficking; possession of proceeds of crime; knowingly possessing an unauthorized firearm; unauthorized possession of a firearm in a vehicle; possession of a loaded firearm; carrying a concealed weapon; and knowingly possessing an overcapacity magazine.

The man remains in custody. He’s scheduled to appear in court on Thursday.
