After cutting 147 million dollars in post-secondary education funding in the spring, the Redford government has now come up with 50 million dollars for colleges and universities.
The money will go directly toward creating new spaces for students.
The previous cuts have forced post-secondary institutions to reduce enrolment, programs, and staff.
Mount Royal University’s president, David Docherty, said “it is too soon for Mount Royal to know how it will use this new funding”.
The University of Calgary says it too will look into how to make the most of the new funding.
A total of $28.4 million is being divided between the province’s four universities – Athabasca University, University of Alberta, University of Calgary and the University of Lehtbridge.
