Ex-Stampeder Fred Childress is expected back in court on Friday to face charges of assault against a youth.

He is charged with assault with a weapon and assault causing bodily harm after he allegedly beat a young person with a belt.

Childress was a second round draft pick of the Cincinnati Bengals in 1989.

When he failed to make an NFL team in 1995, he signed with the Stampeders.

Childress was a West and CFL All-Star from 1996 through to 1998 and was named outstanding offensive lineman in 1998.
