A 44-year-old Calgary man’s ill-gotten time as a free man has reached an abrupt end as the escaped convict has been apprehended by Victoria police.

On Tuesday afternoon, inmate Michael Douglas Sheets left the confines of the William Head Institution on an escorted day pass. During his time away from the correctional institution, Sheets fled from his escort.

On Wednesday evening, Sheets was located and arrested by members of the Victoria Police Department at a Victoria home.

Sheets is serving a 14 year sentence in connection to a fatal 2004 fire at an Applewood home which claimed the lives of two young children.
