Hundreds of students at King George elementary school received an extended Friday morning recess after the smell of natural gas was detected in the building.
At approximately 9:00 a.m., firefighters and ATCO crews responded to the school in the 2100 block of 10 St. N.W. to investigate the odour. A small gas leak was located near the building’s gas meter. ATCO repaired the leak and the school was vented.
Fire crews confirmed the air quality within the school and classes resumed at King George shortly after 10:00 a.m.
No injuries have been reported.
