CTV News has learned that another five people have been charged in connection with the dealing of Ecstasy laced with PMMA.

Police told CTV Calgary Reporter Bridget Brown that the five arrests in February led to lab tests of the drugs which indicated the presence of PMMA.

Five people have been charged with distributing the drugs in Calgary.

CPS Sergeant Mike Bossley says people should not assume that all the PMMA laced Ecstasy is gone from city streets.

"It is a cash business, so we don't know if some of the dealers are just sitting on some of the drugs right now and not moving them because of the concerns that have been raised, so we don't have anything to suggest they're pulling the drugs off the street at this point," said Bossley.

Police say that in some cases those arrested were brought in first on other charges.

In one case, in February, two suspects were apprehended after a foot chase on the Mount Royal University campus which involved campus security.

The arrests are a relief for parents whose children have died after taking the drug.

Carol Dahl's son Daniel died back in December after taking PMMA laced Ecstasy.

"I was absolutely amazed. For the longest time I didn't have any belief the police were going to catch these guys," said Dahl.

Dahl says she knows who sold her son the drug and she will be watching closely to see if he is among those arrested.

A major announcement on the arrests is expected in the coming days.
