Twenty-year-old Brittany Mahingen has been sentenced to five years in prison after being found guilty of manslaughter in the death of her mother.
During the trial, the court heard Brittany and her mother Leanne had been drinking heavily while babysitting in a downtown apartment.
The parents of the child told the court that when they came to pick up their child they found Leanne face down and thought she had been assaulted.
With consideration for time served, Mahingen's sentence works out to 3.5 years in prison.
