Officials say that they have recorded a high return in the advance vote ahead the Calgary-Foothills byelection.

Elections Alberta says that 4,146 people, or about 12 percent of the electorate, voted in the advance polls held last week.

The figure is above the number that voted in 2014’s byelection and May’s general election.

Seven candidates are vying for the seat that was vacated by former Premier Jim Prentice when he resigned on Election Night in May.

Polls are indicating that Bob Hawkesworth of the NDP and Prasad Panda of the Wildrose are leading in the riding.

Blair Houston is running for the PCs, Ali bin Zahid is running for the Liberals, Mark Taylor is representing the Alberta Party, and Janet Keeping is running for the Green Party.

Antoni Grochowski is running as an independent.

The general vote for the byelection will take place on Thursday.
