The RCMP have revealed new details on the horrific shootings Thursday just north of the town of Claresholm.

One person survived the attack.

21-year-old Shayna Conway is still in hospital recovering from multiple gunshot wounds, but is expected to recover.

Police say her account of those terrible events was instrumental in piecing together what lead to the deaths of three bright young adults and their killer.

It was supposed to be a simple drive to the Calgary International Airport; two young women helping two young men get home to visit their families for Christmas.

According to RCMP, following a gas stop at a Claresholm convenience store, tragedy began to unfold.

"A second vehicle followed them out of town for one and a half kilometers," says Sgt. Patrick Webb.

Behind the wheel of the second vehicle, and armed with three loaded guns, was 21-year-old Derek Jensen.

Police say Jensen rammed the SUV with his car. 21-year-old Shayna Conway stopped the SUV and got out to see what happened.

"She walked back and was shot with a 9mm handgun," says Sgt. Webb.

Conway was shot several times.

Police say Jensen then walked up to the SUV and fired many more rounds into the other three victims.

Two of the victims, Mitchell Maclean and Tanner Craswell, were both talented young baseball players from Prince Edward Island.

The third victim, Tabitha Stepple, was the shooter's ex-girlfriend and the intended target of the attack.

With three of the four victims mortally wounded, Jensen turned the 9mm Heckler and Koch handgun on himself.

Police say Jensen was upset that his relationship with Stepple had ended.

Saturday in Lethbridge, where the victims and the shooter all lived, the memorial continued to grow.
