There will be no new hospital beds for Calgarians when the Peter Lougheed Centre extension opens later this month.

The 227 million dollar extension has been in the works for five years.

It will include a new cardiac unit which officials say will be better for staff, patients, and families.

But as beds in the new unit are opened, others will be closed.

There is no funding for any new beds in the system.

Nurses and opposition members say they are disappointed the expansion won't include more beds.
