RCMP and the Correctional Service of Canada are investigating after an inmate was assaulted at the Drumheller Institution, forcing the prison into lockdown.
Police say the assault occurred at about 7 p.m. on Saturday at the medium-security institution.
The injured man was taken from the ambulance to a hospital for further assessment and treatment.
There is no information on the extent of his injuries or how the incident unfolded.
The prison has been locked down for the investigation and the CSC will be reviewing the circumstances around the incident and will take action where necessary.
No staff or other inmates were injured in the incident.
