The family of a five-year-old girl is accusing her piano teacher of showing her pornographic images during a private lesson and charges are now pending against a 33-year-old man.

Police learned of the allegations on Friday and say the incident allegedly occurred at the family’s northwest home during a lesson in February.

“At the time of this incident he was teaching a private lesson,” said S/Sgt. Melanie Oncescu with the Calgary Police Service Child Abuse Unit.

Darrin Colby Hogue, 33, is charged with one count of making sexually explicit material available to children and one count of possession of obscene material for the purpose of publication.

Hogue is scheduled to appear in court on the charges on April 12, 2018.

Hogue worked at Harmony Music  School and late Tuesday afternoon it issued this statement.

“Harmony Music School (HMS) is deeply disturbed by allegations about this former teacher.  This teacher no longer works for HMS.  However, HMS will do everything possible to cooperate with Calgary Police Services in their investigation. “

Harmony Music School is diligent in ensuring that all teachers have valid and current police checks.  In addition, all individual lessons at HMS are at our music studios as we do not offer "in-home lessons".  In addition, all of our studio rooms have windowed doors to provide transparency and added security during lessons.  Parents are also welcome to sit in on lessons anytime, upon request.“
