A man is recovering in hospital after he and another man attempted to put out a fire he came across with a hose.
Crews were called to a home on Valley Glen Bay N.W. after smoke was seen coming from the building.
One person attempted to put out the fire with a hose.
“There was one neighbour who tried to put the fire out in the back and he got some smoke inhalation. AHS took him to be checked out,” said Acting District Chief Wayne Bonderud.
A second man joined him but ended up inhaling some smoke and needed to be taken to the hospital.
The man who first spotted the fire said he acted on instinct. “First reaction was let the neighbours know, get out of the houses and then get in the backyard and put the fire out myself, actually,” said Gordie Mackie.
Arriving crews managed to finish the job and prevented the flames from getting into the home itself.
No one was home at the time, but a pet cat and dog were rescued and turned over to neighbours.
